Foothills
We weren’t planning on moving offices again, but with a break clause on the Kelham site coming up and the sudden arrival on the market of two floors available in the suburb of Fulwood, which is less than ten minutes’ walk from home and nestled in the foothills of the Peak District on the Sheffield/Peaks border, it really seemed like a no-brainer to gather ourselves up and shift the business four miles South-West across town. And to be honest, it has been the best move we could have made.
The new self-contained building has lots of space, with good sized offices and a large meeting room. It is situated on the Fulwood High Street, above a popular parade of shops and cafes. It is a very friendly community here and we have already been made to feel very welcome. Our friend Gerry even hand-made us a sign as a moving in gift.
The main attraction for living in Sheffield, in my opinion, is not the city itself but its proximity to the Peak District and the access it grants to the hills, edges, valleys and crags that separate us from Manchester. Those of you that know me will be aware of my past life as a fell and mountain runner, and my natural attraction to these wild spaces. And were it not for this troublesome achilles tendon that continues to plague my days I would most likely be out there every morning again. But for now I am grateful to live and now work on the edges of the Peak District, and to get out for a few early morning hikes up high before a day in the new office, like this sunrise last week.
